This course is offered to all interested, not only at the university level, from about 16 and up.*
The recommended course length is 30 hours of lectures.
This multidisciplinary introductory course, in English, focuses upon how technology and science in the hands of mankind has evolved through time in western culture. By studying technology and science from several perspectives - e.g religious, political, economic, military, cultural, geographical and from viewpoints of material resources, nature and environment - the students are given a broad background of general themes and individual accomplishments of both success and failure.
The aim of the course is to provide the students with the basic knowledge to understand and analyse technology and science today. The course also contains a part focused upon the development of Swedish science and technology in international perspectives, from the year 1600. The driving forces of technology and scientific development will be examined and analysed, as well as questions regarding the possible development of the future.
